सिक्किम में कुदरत की मार, भूस्खलन से चार की मौत, तीन लापता, कई गंभीर
Once again, nature’s fierce form has been seen in Sikkim. A massive landslide occurred in the Upper Rimbi area of Yangthang region of West Sikkim late on Thursday night. Four people have died in this accident, while three others are still reported missing.
The local administration and security forces team showed promptness and started relief and rescue work, in which two women were rescued in critical condition. However, one of these women died during treatment, while the condition of the other is still critical.
Three people died on the spot
According to the information, the landslide happened so fast and intensely that three people died on the spot. There was no chance to save these people buried under the debris. Local people told that at the time of the incident, everyone was sleeping in their homes, when the debris fell down from the hill with a heavy sound and many houses were hit by it.
Flooded river became an obstacle in rescue work
As soon as the news of the landslide was received, the police, SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) and local people immediately rushed to the spot. However, it was not easy to reach the spot, as to reach there one has to cross the Hume river, which was already in the grip of flood.
The rescue team showed prudence and made a temporary bridge by felling a tree, with the help of which they could reach the debris. During this rescue operation, two women were pulled out in critical condition and immediately rushed to the hospital.
After reaching the hospital, doctors declared one woman dead, while the condition of the other remains worrisome. A team of doctors is constantly monitoring her. The administration is providing all possible help to the affected families.
Three people are still missing
West Sikkim SP Gising Sherpa, while giving information to the media, said that three people are still missing in this accident. Relief and search operations are going on to find the missing people. NDRF teams have also been kept on alert, and can be sent to the spot if required.
Administration and security forces on alert
After the incident, the administration is on high alert in the entire area. People living in nearby areas are being shifted to safer places. Officials said that more rain is expected in the coming days, which may worsen the situation. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert.
