A self-styled godman has been arrested in Odisha’s Cuttack district for allegedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl.

Police said the accused took the girl to a monastery and raped her, after which a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and he was immediately taken into custody.

Police said the incident occurred in the Kendupatna area when the girl was going to a shop near her home to buy some goods. Police said the 50-year-old accused took the girl to a nearby monastery and sexually assaulted her. Police said a case has been registered at the Nandankanan police station under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. They said the accused was immediately arrested.
In a separate incident, a man in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district killed a man who allegedly tried to rape his 10-year-old daughter. Police gave this information on Sunday. Police said that the incident took place on Saturday when the girl had gone to take bath in the canal with her father. They said that after taking bath in the canal near their village in Parjang police station area, the girl had gone a little distance to defecate.
Police said that at that time a 27-year-old man allegedly attacked the girl. Police said that after hearing his daughter’s cries for help, her father reached the spot and hit the attacker with a stone lying nearby, due to which he died on the spot. They said that the father later surrendered at the police station.
