Uttar Pradesh Energy and Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma had to address the gathering in the dark due to a power cut during a program organized in his hometown Mau on Wednesday evening. Action has been taken against four officials of the electricity department over the incident, two of them have been suspended.

Arvind Sharma had reached Mau to participate in the three-day Vikas Mahotsav organized to mark the completion of eight years of the state government. On Wednesday evening, local residents had invited him to the felicitation ceremony organized at Hanuman Ghat.
However, despite holding the charge of power supply minister in the state, Sharma had to give a speech without electricity in the middle of his own city. Power was out for hours on Bandh Road, one of the most important areas of the city. Officials of the electricity department were also missing. While leaving after the program, he had to search for his shoes in the light of his mobile phone torch. Videos of the incident are being shared online.

According to an official statement, the state government has taken disciplinary action against four officials of the electricity department following the incident. An explanation has been sought from Superintending Engineer Sanjay Vaish, while Executive Engineer Bhuvanraj Singh has been given a chargesheet. Apart from this, Sub-Divisional Officer Prakash Singh and Junior Engineer OP Kushwaha have been suspended. The electricity department has given strict instructions to prevent such incidents in future and said that further action may be taken against those found responsible if the investigation continues
