The Supreme Court has changed its old order in the case of stray dogs and has ordered to release them back in the same area after sterilization and vaccination. The court has given a new interim verdict amending its previous order. However, those who are infected with rabies or have aggressive behavior will be kept in shelter homes. This decision will now be implemented across the country.
Also, feeding dogs on the streets has also been completely banned. Instead, the Municipal Corporation (MCD) has been directed to create special feeding places for dogs, so that they can be taken care of in a systematic manner.

A bench of three judges, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV. Anjariya, has taken this decision. Along with this, orders have also been given to transfer the related cases pending in all the courts across the country to the Supreme Court.
On the Supreme Court’s order on stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, Supreme Court lawyer and petitioner Nanita Sharma said that “This is a balanced order. The court has included all the states in this matter. All the cases related to dogs pending in all the courts of all the states will be brought to the same court.” He has said that common dogs should be sterilized and aggressive dogs should be kept in enclosures / animal shelters. The court has said that the MCD will create designated feeding areas for dogs.
Earlier, the Supreme Court’s order was limited to Delhi-NCR only, but now it has been decided to implement it all over India. The court said that this problem has increased due to the inaction of the local authorities, so strict steps need to be taken. Transferring the cases pending in courts across the country to the Supreme Court will ensure uniformity and the policy will be implemented effectively.
Let us tell you that on August 11, the Supreme Court, expressing concern over the increasing menace of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, directed the MCD and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to take immediate action and catch and remove all stray dogs.
