The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Reserve Bank has once again made no change in the policy interest rate repo rate. For the sixth consecutive time the repo rate has been kept at 6.5%.

The RBI on Thursday kept the repo rate at 6.5 per cent for the sixth consecutive time as part of its policy to keep inflation under control as well as boost growth in the economy. Five out of six members of the Monetary Policy Committee voted in favor of the rate decision.
Monetary policy should remain actively deflationary, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said in a statement. Das said domestic economic activity remains strong and the growth momentum is expected to continue in the next fiscal year. RBI has estimated real GDP growth at 7 percent for 2024-25.
He also said that the debt of the central and state governments is expected to reduce in the coming years. Also, the RBI Governor expressed concern over the rising debt, which is causing serious concerns in many countries, which could impact the global financial system.
