The Supreme Court has strongly reprimanded Patanjali Ayurved, a company associated with Yoga Guru Ramdev, and the Central Government for misleading advertisements of medicines. Also, the apex court has issued a notice to Patanjali and its management director Balkrishna asking why contempt of court action should not be taken against them. The court has also sought answers on misleading advertisements for the treatment of diseases. The court has sought a reply in this matter within three weeks.

The court said that the government will have to take immediate action. The Central Government has to reply to the Supreme Court in three weeks as to what action it has taken.
The Supreme Court has banned the advertisements of Patanjali’s medical products, which claim to cure many serious diseases. The court has said that the word Permanent Relief in the advertisements of Patanjali Ayurveda is in itself misleading and a violation of the law. The court said that from today onwards you will not give any misleading advertisement nor will you give such advertisement in print or electronic media. The court reprimanded Patanjali and said, how did you comment on allopathy, when we had accepted it? On this, Patanjali told the court that we have built a research lab worth Rs 50 crore. On this, the court has told Patanjali that you can give only ordinary ads.
The Supreme Court said during the hearing that we will make two people whose photographs are on the advertisement of Patanjali, as parties. Will issue them a notice. They will have to file their answer individually. The court said that we do not want to know who is who? We will make parties. During the hearing, the Central Government also said that we will not tolerate any kind of misleading advertisement, no matter who it is.
It is worth noting that earlier the Supreme Court was angry over publishing advertisements despite orders. In the Supreme Court, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah himself came to the court with the newspaper. Justice Amanullah had said that you have had the courage to bring this advertisement even after the court order. We are going to pass a very strict order. You are provoking the court. How can you say that you will cure the disease? Despite our warnings, you are saying that our things are better than chemical based medicines? The central government should also take action on this.
