Rain damage | Sukhu promises free LPG kits, ration till March 31 next year to affected people

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has also announced relief for the people affected by heavy rains and landslides in the state. CM said that the disaster affected people will be given free LPG kits and ration. Besides, gas connection kit will also be given free of cost. The free LPG kit will include an LPG cylinder, pressure regulator and a hot plate, among other things. He said the provision of free ration will be extended till March 31, 2024 to ensure access to basic food needs to disaster-affected families.

CM Sukhu said efforts have also been initiated to provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for rural and urban areas.

The Chief Minister is continuously demanding to declare Himachal disaster as a national disaster. CM Sukhu said that he is grateful to Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi for strongly advocating for the disaster-affected state in her letter to PM Modi. Thanked him for appealing to PM Modi to declare the devastation caused by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh as a national disaster like the Kedarnath tragedy of 2013.

Himachal Pradesh has suffered a loss of about Rs 12,000 crore due to heavy rains and landslides. Nearly 13,000 houses were damaged by floods, cloudbursts and landslides, movement on national highways and roads was disrupted and public and private property was extensively damaged. The Chief Minister said that due to the disaster, farmers have suffered huge losses as a large part of the agricultural land in the state has been submerged.
