A major train accident occurred late at night in Jamui district of Bihar, completely disrupting traffic on a crucial section of the East Central Railway. A freight train loaded with cement suddenly derailed, and several of its wagons fell from a bridge. The accident took place on the Barua River bridge near Telwa Halt, adjacent to Simulthala in Jamui district, on the Jhajha-Jasidih railway section.
When and How Did the Accident Happen?
According to reports, the freight train was traveling from Jasidih to Jhajha. Around 11:30 PM, near bridge number 676 and pole number 344/18 under the Asansol railway division, the train wagons suddenly derailed.
Cement Scattered Everywhere, Track Damaged
The freight train was carrying a large quantity of cement. As the wagons fell, cement bags and debris were scattered across the bridge and surrounding area. This caused significant damage to the railway track. Following the accident, rail operations on both the up and down lines were completely halted.
Several Trains Stopped En Route
The accident affected passenger and freight trains running on the Kiul-Jasidih railway section. Several trains were stopped at different stations, causing considerable inconvenience to passengers.
Railway Administration Reaches the Scene
Upon receiving news of the accident, the railway administration was immediately alerted. Railway police, RPF, and railway technical officers promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Special trains and heavy machinery have also been dispatched from Jhajha and Jasidih to remove the derailed wagons and repair the track as quickly as possible.
No Casualties
Fortunately, there are no reports of any casualties in this major accident, which is considered a relief. However, rail operations have suffered significant disruption.
Railway Investigating the Incident
Currently, railway officials are investigating the causes of the accident. Initially, a technical malfunction or a track defect is suspected. The railway administration says that train services will only resume after the repair and cleaning work is completed. Until then, it may take some time for the situation to return to normal for trains running on this route.
