Rabies Scare in Budaun | Nearly 200 Villagers Vaccinated After Buffalo Milk Contamination

Dr. Rameshwar Mishra, the Chief Medical Officer of Badaun district, said that they had received information that a buffalo in the village had been bitten by a rabid dog and had died due to symptoms of rabies.

Panic spread among villagers in the Ujhani area of ​​Badaun district, Uttar Pradesh, after it was reported that a buffalo had died from a dog bite, and that the villagers had consumed raita (a yogurt-based dish) made from the buffalo’s milk. In a rush, approximately 200 villagers went to the community health center to receive rabies vaccinations as a precaution.

According to the villagers, a funeral ceremony was held on December 23rd in Piprauli village, under the Ujhani police station area, where the entire village was invited to a feast. Raita was served at the feast, and a large number of villagers consumed it. Later, it was revealed that the buffalo whose milk was used to make the yogurt for the raita had been bitten by a dog a few days earlier. The buffalo died on December 26th, leading to panic in the village due to fears of a rabies outbreak.

They said that in the atmosphere of fear, a large number of men, women, and young people went to the Ujhani community health center on Saturday and Sunday to get rabies vaccinations.

Badaun District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rameshwar Mishra said that they received information that a buffalo in the village had been bitten by a rabid dog and had died due to symptoms of rabies. It was also reported that villagers had consumed raita made from the buffalo’s milk. As a precaution, everyone was advised to get vaccinated against rabies.

He said that usually, there is no risk of rabies after boiling the milk, but the vaccination was administered to prevent any potential risk.

Villager Yashoda Devi said that there was a funeral feast in the village, where everyone ate raita. Later, when they learned about the buffalo’s death and that it had been bitten by a dog, the villagers panicked and went to get vaccinated as a precaution.

According to the health department, no disease outbreak has occurred in the village so far, and the situation is completely normal.
