Pune Police has arrested the mother of the minor accused in the ‘Porsche’ car accident case. It has been confirmed that the teenager’s blood samples were replaced with his mother’s blood sample. His mother may be produced in a court today.

City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said on Saturday that the teenager was arrested after investigation into the accident revealed that his blood samples were replaced with those of his mother.

The police had told a local court two days ago that the teenager’s blood samples were replaced with those of a woman.

On May 19, a 17-year-old Porsche driver allegedly hit two software engineers riding a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar in Pune, killing both of them. Police claimed that the accused was driving the car in an inebriated state.

The 17-year-old accused in the case has been sent to a correctional home while his father and real estate businessman Vishal Agarwal and grandfather Surendra Agarwal have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the family’s driver and pressuring him to take responsibility for the accident.

On Friday, a court sent the minor’s father and grandfather to 14-day judicial custody. His police custody period had ended.

The police have arrested Dr Ajay Tawde, head of the forensic medicine department of Sasoon General Hospital, medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and staffer Atul Ghatkamble for allegedly swapping blood samples of a minor to show that the accused was not drunk at the time of the accident.

According to the police, there were several phone conversations between Vishal Agrawal and Dr Ajay Tawde, one of the arrested doctors, while the samples were being collected for alcohol testing.

Maharashtra minister Hasan Mushrif had said on Friday, “The police found that on the night of the accident in Pune, Dr Tawde was on leave and he received a call from someone. He took Rs 3 lakh and called Dr Halnor to swap the blood samples.”

The police on Friday filed an application for the custody of Vishal Agrawal in connection with the alleged swapping of blood samples.

Meanwhile, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has allowed the police to question the minor allegedly involved in the Porsche accident. Under the Juvenile Justice Act, a minor has to be questioned in the presence of his parents.

The JJB had granted bail to the minor son of real estate baron Vishal Agarwal a few hours after the accident on May 19, after asking him to write a 300-word essay on road accidents, drawing heavy criticism.

Amid nationwide criticism, the police again approached the JJB, which modified the order and sent the minor to a correctional home till June 5.

After a JJB member granted bail to the minor, the Maharashtra government set up a committee to probe the conduct of JJB members appointed by the state government. The committee will also look into whether rules were followed while passing the order in the Pune car accident case.

Women and Child Department Commissioner Prashant Narnavare had earlier said the committee, headed by a deputy commissioner, would submit its report by next week.
