Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s mafia organization has claimed responsibility for the firing at Bollywood megastar Salman Khan’s house in Mumbai just before dawn on Sunday. Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol Bishnoi, who lives in America, has also described this incident as the “first and last warning” for Salman Khan. He warned that next time “bullets will not be fired at the walls or at any empty house”.

In a post on Facebook, Anmol Bishnoi has reportedly posted a message on behalf of other associates of the ‘Bishnoi group’ like Goldie Brar, Rohit Godara and Kala Jathari. In the post she said, “We want peace. If the decision against oppression is made through war, then war is right. Salman Khan, we have done this to show you the trailer. So that you understand.

Anmol Bishnoi further wrote, “Don’t test our strength further. This is the first and last warning. After this, bullets will not be fired at an empty house. And, we have given two dogs in the name of Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel whom you have considered as God. I am not used to speaking much.” At the end of the post he has written ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

The post comes hours after open firing at Salman Khan’s sea-facing Bandra home around 5 am on Sunday morning. This attack has created a stir in the entertainment and political world. At least two unidentified men wearing helmets speeded up on a motorcycle and fired at least four bullets towards Galaxy Apartments before fleeing on a dark and deserted road.

For the past several years, Salman Khan and his family have been facing death threats from some Punjab-based mafia groups like the Bishnoi gang. Over the years, he and his father Salim Khan have received death threats in different ways, including a letter written to the family.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team of Bandra Police reached Salman Khan’s house and started preliminary investigation. Security has been tightened in the surrounding area. Police are scanning CCTV footage in the area to trace the shooters and investigate their motives and targets. More details are awaited. Hours later, the crime branch and forensic team along with ballistic experts also reached the spot and found at least one bullet mark at the entrance of the building.

The firing sparked a major political controversy with opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders criticizing the ruling Mahayuti, alleging that “law and order has completely collapsed in the state”. Senior MVA leaders like Supriya Sule, Nana Patole, Sanjay Raut, Anil Deshmukh, Kishore Tiwari attacked the state government over the increasing incidents of firing in public places.

Salman Khan, 58, lives with his parents, brother and relatives in the historic Galaxy Apartments in the picturesque Bandra Beach area of suburban north-west Mumbai. After the black buck hunting incident in Rajasthan in 1998, Salim Khan and Salman Khan have been receiving death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang for many years. About two years ago, near his home, during his morning walk, Salim Khan had found a note which read, “Salim Khan…Salman Khan…will soon be your son.”

The reference was to Sidhu Moose Wala, who was brutally shot near his house on May 29, 2022. His death shocked the entertainment industry. After several threats to the Mumbai-based actor, the city police has upgraded Salman Khan’s security cover, as well as issued him a permit for a gun license and last year, the actor got a new bullet-proof gun as additional security.
