The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team that had gone to investigate the 2022 bomb blast case in Bhupatinagar area of East Medinipur district of West Bengal was attacked by villagers on Saturday. Police gave this information.

A team of NIA officers arrested two people in connection with the case on Wednesday morning and the team was returning to Kolkata when its vehicle was attacked, police said.

He said that NIA has also lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.

Officials of the Federal Investigation Agency could not be reached for comment regarding this incident.

Police said that a large contingent of Central Police Force has reached Bhupatinagar, where an NIA team is present along with the two arrested people.

Three people were killed in an explosion in a kutcha house in Bhupatinagar on December 3, 2022. Later the investigation of the case was handed over to NIA.

Saturday’s incident was reminiscent of the January 5 incident when Enforcement Directorate officials were attacked during a raid in connection with the ration scam in Sandeshkhali area of North 24 Parganas.
