भारत में कोविड के नए वेरिएंट ने दी दस्तक

Covid is scaring once again. At least 91 Covid cases have been reported in Maharashtra in the past few days and most of them are of the Omicron variant of Covid. Their categories have been described as KP 1.1 and KP 2. These cases have started appearing in Maharashtra since January.

In fact, the KP 2 variant of Covid has overtaken the earlier JN 1 variant and at present its presence is being seen in many countries of the world. So far 51 KP 2 cases have been reported in Pune, 20 in Thane. This variant was first identified worldwide in January.

By March and April, this variant has become the most effective variant. However, no seriously ill person has come to hospitals yet, nor has any patient with a case of this new variant been admitted. Seven cases each have been found in Amravati and Aurangabad. Two cases have been reported in Solapur. Apart from this, one case each of KP 2 variant has also been found in Ahmednagar, Nashik, Latur and Sangli. So far, no case of this variant has been reported in Mumbai.

Genome sequencing conducted in March and April has revealed that a total of 91 cases of KP2 have been found so far in Maharashtra.

At present, the highest number of cases of KP 2 variant has been seen in America. The new variant is being called virulent because it contains both KP1.1 and KP2 strains. Viruses have been given such a name technically on the basis of their growth. The World Health Organization (WHO) is monitoring the situation and studying the effectiveness of the vaccine in these cases.

Experts say it may take several weeks to determine how much KP 2 will increase Covid cases. But, the symptoms found are much milder than before. KP2 is faster than the earlier variant JN1 and overcomes the effect of the vaccine and its infection rate is also faster. But in people who have had Covid before, the infection with this variant is lighter than others.

Like other variants of Covid, this variant also spreads through respiratory droplets and people with low immunity need to take special precautions.

If a victim of this variant, the main symptoms are sore throat, runny nose, cough, body and headache pain, fever, chest tightness, dizziness and difficulty in breathing, etc. Many people infected with this variant may also complain of vomiting and diarrhea. But very few people have experienced loss of smell and taste.

While KP2 is spreading rapidly, other variants are slower to spread. According to US data, KP 2 has been found in 28 percent of the total Covid cases in the country, while KP 1.1 has been found in only 7.1 percent. Currently, variants like JN1, JN 1.7, 1.13 etc. have surfaced in America.
