Nepal unrest | Pilgrims bus with Indians attacked in Kathmandu

Amid the ongoing unrest in Nepal, a bus carrying Indian tourists returning from Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu was allegedly attacked by protesters, leaving several passengers injured, the bus driver claimed.

Kathmandu. A bus of Indian pilgrims has been attacked in the capital Kathmandu amid the ongoing violent protests in Nepal. A bus of pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh was attacked by anti-social elements near Kathmandu. According to the Times of India report, the pilgrims were returning after visiting Pashupatinath temple, when their bus was pelted with stones. The attackers broke the windows and looted the bags, cash and mobile phones from the passengers. Seven to eight passengers were injured in this incident. However, the Nepali Army, which reached the spot later, handled the situation and saved the tourists.

According to Kathmandu Police, the pilgrims were returning from visiting Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu, when their bus was attacked. According to the report, the attackers threw stones at the bus, broke its windows and looted the passengers’ bags, cash and mobile phones.

Shyamu Nishad, an employee of the bus, told the Times of India that “seven-eight passengers have been injured but Nepali army personnel came forward to help us. Later, the Indian government arranged to airlift all the stranded passengers from Kathmandu to Delhi.” The damaged bus reached the Sonauli border near Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening, officials said. Recalling the horrific experience, bus driver Raj, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, said that the mob attacked the bus when it was heading back to India. After reaching the Sunauli border, he said, “The attackers broke all the windows of the bus with stones and looted our luggage.”

Due to the violence and tension in Nepal, Indian authorities have increased security and vigilance in the border areas of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. In view of this, a high alert has been issued in the border districts of the three states to prevent any untoward incident or illegal activities across the border.
