At least 129 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in a 5.6 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal at midnight on Friday. The officers provided this information.
The earthquake struck western Jajarkot district at around 2:02 a.m. local time (1802 GMT Friday) at a depth of 18 km, Xinhua news agency quoted the US Geological Survey as saying. According to the National Center for Seismology, the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 6.4 on the Richter scale.
The quake killed at least 35 people in Rukum district and 34 others in neighboring Jajarkot district, officials said. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed grief over the loss of life and property in the earthquake and ordered immediate rescue and relief operations in a post on social media.
