मुंबई की मतदाता सूची में बड़ा खुलासा, 11 % डुप्लीकेट ‘ मतदाता, एक जगह 103 एंट्री

Amid preparations for the upcoming elections in Mumbai, a shocking finding has emerged regarding the voter list. Of the city’s total 10.3 million voters, 10.64%—more than 1.1 million—have been found to have their names repeated two or more times. This was revealed in official data shared by the Maharashtra State Election Commission.

Number of Duplicate Names Crosses 1.1 Million

Inspecting the draft voter list, the Commission found that the names of 4.33 lakh voters were repeated between two and 103 times. Adding these, the total number of duplicate entries reached 1,101,505, a serious discrepancy for any major metropolitan voter list.

This is the first time such a high level of duplication has been discovered in the voter list. Many experts attribute this to problems with data integration and the failure to update old records.

Deadline for filing objections extended

To ensure the accuracy of the voter list, the Commission has given people an additional opportunity to file corrections and objections. Originally set for November 27th, the deadline has now been extended to December 3rd.

The Commission stated that due to the large number of duplicate entries found, it was necessary to provide citizens with more time to correct errors.

Final list to be released on December 10th

According to a statement from the Maharashtra State Election Commission:

After processing corrections and objections, the final voter list will be published on December 10th.

Preparations for municipal and other elections are expected to accelerate after the final list is released.

Why are duplicate entries increasing?

According to local election officials, there could be several reasons behind this:

Old records being deleted due to a change in polling area.

Spelling differences in names or addresses.

Re-registration based on different documents.

Large-scale movement in the city and the rise in renting.

However, the Commission states that necessary technical steps are being taken continuously to correct the error.

Appeal to voters: Check your name immediately

The Election Commission has advised citizens to check their name, current address, and other details in the voter list.

Duplicate entries not only create difficulties for the administration but can also sometimes cause inconvenience to people on polling day.
