Nepal government issues directive after improved weather
Meanwhile, the Nepal government has allowed some vehicles to travel to and from Kathmandu following improved weather. The Kathmandu Valley received less rainfall on Sunday (October 5, 2025) compared to the previous two days, and blockages caused by landslides have been cleared from some national highways.
A statement issued by the NDRRMA said, “As per the decision of the Monsoon Counter Command Post, emergency services, cargo transport, passenger vehicles, and short-distance vehicles stranded on national highways will be allowed to proceed to their destinations, taking into account the road conditions in coordination with local authorities.” However, nighttime vehicular movement on vulnerable roads and highways is prohibited until further notice.
Nepalese authorities issue red alert
Nepali authorities on Saturday (October 4, 2025) banned vehicular entry and exit from Kathmandu due to incessant rain and the possibility of landslides for the next three days. A red alert was also issued for areas along the Bagmati and East Rapti rivers. Officials said that Kathmandu and other parts of the country have been receiving continuous rainfall since Friday night due to the active monsoon.
