The Rajya Sabha MP told the House that 58 percent of the road accidents are involving pedestrians. If we look at this data of accidents in India, about 32,825 pedestrians became victims of accidents in 2022.

Rakesh Sinha told Rajya Sabha that this is a global trend, and such accidents are happening all over the world. According to him, 1.2 million accidents occur all over the world. Presenting the figures, Sinha said that 7500 accidents have occurred in the United States in the year 2022. The great thing is that these road accidents in America show an increase of 77 percent compared to the year 2010.

He said that in India too, a continuous increase in such road accidents is being seen. Rakesh Sinha said in Rajya Sabha that pedestrians have a natural and fundamental right. When the National Highway is being widened, small traders, fruit vendors, railway stations, bus stands are already located at those places. Citing statistics, he said that as per the current facts, 31 percent of the pedestrians walk for commercial reasons. The Rajya Sabha MP said that in this context I demand the safety of pedestrians walking on the road.

He said that in general terms, wherever the road is widened or expanded, locality should be protected at those places. That is, it is our duty to protect the safety and rights of the local people who travel on foot, travel in traditional ways, travel by bullock cart, travel by horse cart, travel by gig.

Rakesh Sinha said in the Rajya Sabha that since the National Highway connects big cities, the local people should not feel unsafe. Along with this, Rakesh Sinha demanded construction of two flyovers in Begusarai, Bihar to save pedestrians from road accidents.
