इंस्टाग्राम यूजर्स सावधान, 1.75 करोड़ अकाउंट्स का डेटा हुआ लीक; हैकर्स के हाथ लगी निजी जानकारी
This news is a cause for concern for the millions of users connected to the social media platform Instagram. Cybersecurity company Malwarebytes claims that the private data of 17.5 million Instagram accounts has been leaked.
This data includes crucial information related to users’ identity and contact details. This information has already been shared on hacker forums. However, Instagram’s parent company, Meta, has not yet officially confirmed this alleged data leak.
Malwarebytes reported that this issue came to light during their dark web monitoring. The investigation revealed that a large amount of data associated with Instagram accounts was being illegally shared online. This includes usernames, full names, email IDs, mobile numbers, partial addresses, and other contact details. Cybersecurity experts believe that the leak of such a large amount of data poses a serious threat to users’ digital security.
What kind of threat could this pose?
According to experts, the leaked data could prove extremely useful for cybercriminals. It can be used to create fake identities for fraud, send phishing emails, and hack accounts. Attackers could try to take over accounts by exploiting Instagram’s password reset system. Regular users are advised to be cautious of suspicious messages and links.
What to do if your account has been compromised
If a user receives a security-related email from Instagram, they should immediately follow the instructions provided. A new login link can be requested by selecting the ‘Forgotten password’ option on the login screen. If access to the email or phone number is unavailable, support can be requested through Instagram’s help page.
Identity verification process
During Instagram account recovery, users may be asked for information for identity verification. For accounts without photos, information about the registered email or phone number and the device used is requested. For accounts with photos, a video selfie is requested, in which the user has to move their head in different directions. This video is used only for identity verification and is deleted after a limited time. Essential Steps to Secure Your Account
Users who can still log in to their accounts should change their passwords immediately. Enabling two-factor authentication is crucial. Verify your email address and mobile number, and remove access for any unfamiliar third-party apps. Additionally, it’s advisable to go to the Accounts Center and immediately remove any suspicious linked accounts.
This incident once again underscores the importance of digital vigilance. Every user active on social media must prioritize their online security.
