Manipur violence: SC named 3-judge panel to monitor conditions at relief camps

The Supreme Court has constituted a committee of three women judges to probe violence against women in Manipur, tasked with collecting information on such incidents as well as monitoring the relief situation. Setting up of camps and deciding on compensation to the victims.

CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. It asked the committee to submit a report on the steps needed to meet the needs of survivors of gender-based violence, and ensure that relief camps set up for displaced persons provide access to clean rations, basic medical care, essential products, free sanitary pads Be

The committee has been empowered to issue directions for appointment of nodal officers in relief camps and provision of toll-free helplines to provide updates on any investigation, missing persons and recovery of bodies.

The Supreme Court ordered, “The nodal officers should also ensure that they maintain a database of all persons living in their respective relief camps.”

The committee has been tasked with providing compensation and compensation to the victims of the violence. It has been empowered to issue directions to the State Legal Services Authority to ensure payment of compensation to all victims. “Where the victim has died, the next of kin should be identified for payment of compensation,” the apex court’s judgment said.

The committee may issue directions to the state government to settle the compensation for damage caused to the movable and immovable properties of the persons affected by the violence. It will submit its updated status report directly to the apex court on fortnightly basis
