Unidentified assailants torched five houses in Manipur’s capital Imphal’s New Lambulen area on Sunday. Police gave this information. “On receiving information, fire brigade personnel immediately rushed to the spot and doused the fire before it spread to congested areas,” a police officer said. Soon after the incident, angry people gathered in the area. He accused the authorities of not identifying the culprits behind the arson.
Later, the security forces fired a few rounds of teargas shells to disperse the crowd.
In another incident, media reports quoted police as saying, “Unidentified assailants shot dead former health director K.K. Three weapons were snatched from the security personnel guarding Rajo’s residence.
The weapons looted included two AK series rifles and a carbine. Police have launched a search operation to nab the culprits and recover the looted weapons.
