The threat of man-eating wolves is escalating in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. Fear grips the villages, and people are now afraid to let their children out alone, even during the day. Recent incidents have once again highlighted the challenges faced by the administration and the forest department.

Wolf snatches child from mother’s side

A heart-wrenching incident occurred last night in the Kaiserganj area. A one-year-old girl was with her mother when a man-eating wolf snatched her away. The incident caused panic in the area. Upon receiving the information, forest department and police teams became active and launched a search operation immediately.

Wolf attacks child playing in the courtyard

Another incident occurred late in the evening in Godhiya Number Two village of Kaiserganj. A three-year-old girl was playing in the courtyard of her house when a wolf suddenly attacked her. The wolf grabbed the child in its mouth and ran away, but after the family members raised an alarm and chased it, the wolf dropped the injured child in the bushes about 300 meters away and fled. The injured child has been admitted to the hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. The villagers are terrified after this incident.

Another fatal attack a week ago

This is not the first such incident. Last week, around 3 AM in Jarua village, a hamlet of Godhiya Number Four in the Kaiserganj police station area, a wolf snatched away one-year-old Aarvi, daughter of Ramkumar. The child was sleeping with her mother on the verandah. The wolf carried her away towards a sugarcane field, and the innocent child could not be saved.

Fog and tall crops pose a challenge

Upon receiving information about the incidents, forest department and police teams reached the spot. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dr. Ram Singh Yadav said that a search operation was launched at 3:30 AM after receiving the information. However, dense fog and tall sugarcane crops posed a major obstacle to the search operation. Drone cameras also faced difficulties operating at night. As soon as day broke, the combing operation was intensified again, and efforts to capture or kill the man-eating wolf are continuing.

11 deaths, 33 injured in three months

The terror of wolves has been ongoing in Bahraich district for the past three months. This series of attacks, which began on September 10, has not yet stopped. So far, a total of 11 people, including nine innocent children and an elderly couple, have lost their lives in these attacks. In addition, 33 people have been injured. The forest department claims that four wolves have been killed so far, but the remaining wolves are continuously carrying out new attacks. On November 28 and 29, two more innocent children fell victim to the wolves.

Panic among villagers, demand for security

The continuous incidents have caused great anger and fear among the villagers. People are demanding a permanent solution from the forest department. The administration is appealing to people to remain vigilant, not to leave children alone, and to stay in safe places at night. Experts believe that the threat will persist in the area until the man-eating wolves are completely brought under control.

This reign of terror by wolves in Bahraich has become a major test for the administration, where every new morning begins with the apprehension of another tragedy.
