A youth from Maharashtra’s Jalna city, who recently returned from Jammu and Kashmir, has claimed that a suspected attacker in the Pahalgam terror case spoke to him a day before the terror attack.
Adarsh Raut spoke about his conversation with a man at a ‘food stall’ in Baisaran valley in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 21. He said, I remember the man asking me, “Are you a Hindu? You don’t seem to be from Kashmir.”
26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in firing by terrorists on April 22 in Baisaran near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in Anantnag district of south Kashmir. Many people were injured in the attack.
Raut told media persons that a few days after the massacre of tourists, security agencies released sketches of three suspected attackers and one of the sketches matches with the person who spoke to them at the ‘food stall’.
According to Raut, he had gone for horse riding in Pahalgam on April 21 and had stopped at a “Maggi stall” to eat when a man approached him and asked him if he was a Hindu. He also told Raut that he did not look like a Kashmiri. “The suspect then turned to his companion and said, “There is less crowd today,” Raut said.
The Jalna resident said he found the conversation a bit disturbing and did not understand its meaning. The next day, terrorists brutally killed more than 24 tourists in the same area.
He claimed that he was able to piece together the conversation after seeing the sketch released by the NIA (National Investigation Agency). Raut said he has emailed a detailed account of his experience in Kashmir to the NIA.
“I have written everything that I remember. I have also mentioned that I could not pay the owner of the ‘Maggi stall’ initially due to network problems,” he said. I took his phone number and paid him after coming down the hill.”
Raut said he had not received any response from the NIA. “If they contact me, I will cooperate with them in every possible way,” he said.
