A convict in the March 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts was beaten to death by five undertrial prisoners inside Kolhapur Central Jail. Munna was sentenced to life imprisonment. Police gave this information on Sunday.
Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit told the media that the convict, 59-year-old Mohammed Ali Khan alias Munna, was attacked by five other inmates from Mumbai. The incident took place in the morning when all the inmates were going to take a bath at the prison located in Kalamba.x
A heated argument between the inmates led to a fierce fight. Five undertrial prisoners pulled the manhole cover and hit Munna multiple times on the head. This led to his death.
Following this, the jail authorities and the team of Rajwada police station in Kolhapur arrested the attackers under murder, rioting and other charges. The accused were identified as Rituraj Inamdar, Deepak Khot, Shankar Chavan, Saurabh Siddh and Pratik Patil. Police and jail authorities are investigating the incident.
