The managers of ‘Ganga Seva Nidhi’, the organization which organizes the aarti, said on Thursday that due to floodwater in the lower parts of the Dashaswamedh Ghat, the traditional aarti is still being performed on the rooftops.

Floods in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh have increased the difficulties of the people. The flood of the overflowing Ganges has disrupted the arrangements at the ghats. Due to the waterlogging in the lower parts of the ghats, the work of aarti and cremation is being done on the roofs.
The water level of the Ganges is rising once again after decreasing in the last few days. The water level of the Ganges crossed the warning point of 70.262 meters on Thursday morning and reached 70.91 meters. Now this water level has reached close to the danger point of 71.262 meters.
The administrators of the ‘Ganga Seva Nidhi’, the organization organizing the aarti, said on Thursday that the traditional aarti is still being performed on the roofs due to the floodwater filling in the lower parts of the Dashashwamedh Ghat.
He said that due to the lower part being submerged in water, cremation work is being done on the roofs at Harishchandra and Manikarnika Ghat. The Sheetla Mata temple located at Dashashwamedh Ghat is submerged.
The district administration has instructed the concerned departments to remain alert in view of the rising water level of the rivers and the possible flood situation in the district.
District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar said that the municipal corporation officials have been instructed to ensure proper cleanliness of the premises and toilets of the relief camps, and to regularly spray anti-larvae and fog in waterlogged areas. Along with this, flood relief camps are being reactivated.
Along with the Ganges, the Varuna river is also in spate, due to which the situation in the coastal areas has started deteriorating again. Water is entering areas like Shakkar Talab, Purana Pul, Nakkhi Ghat, Pulkohana and Deendayalpur. Due to the flood, more than 100 people have been forced to leave their homes and go to safer places.
