Jharkhand | A service van full of labourers fell into a 300 feet deep ditch in Dhanbad, 6 missing

A major accident took place on Friday in Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Area-4 mine area in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. A service van of Maa Ambe Company, which mines here on outsourcing basis, fell into a ditch about 300 feet deep. There were five to six workers in this van. Despite the rescue operation going on for three hours, the workers have not been found. There is chaos in the entire area after the accident.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, senior officials of BCCL reached the spot with the rescue team. In-charges of Katras police station, Ramkanali OP and Angarpathra OP are also engaged in relief and rescue work with their team. Till 2.30 pm, there has been no success in removing the service van that fell into the ditch. Due to difficult terrain and depth, the rescue team is facing huge difficulties.

According to local sources, the accident happened when the service van was coming out of the mine area with the workers. Suddenly the soil slipped and the vehicle fell into a deep ditch. Considering the seriousness of the incident, the BCCL management has called an emergency meeting. Officials say that the priority is to evacuate the workers and save their lives. Panic has also spread among other workers and employees working in the mine area. Local people are also helping in the relief work.

The police said that the identity of the workers and their exact number can be confirmed only after the rescue operation is completed. Ambulances and medical teams are deployed at the spot so that the injured can get immediate treatment. The administration has started investigating the accident. At the same time, questions have also started arising about the safety standards. There have been many incidents of land subsidence in the Dhanbad coal area last month. On August 27, Anju Devi fell into a 15 feet deep pit due to sudden land subsidence in Godhar of Kendua Kusunda Area-6. She was rescued with great difficulty. Earlier on August 18, a house was completely razed to the ground due to land subsidence in Jogta police station area, while five houses were damaged.
