With the change in weather patterns, a spell of snowfall has commenced in the high-altitude regions of Himachal Pradesh. Lahaul-Spiti, Dhundi in Manali, and both ends of the Atal Tunnel (the North and South Portals) are now blanketed in fresh snow.
Due to heavy snowfall, snow accumulation has reached approximately one and a half feet at the Baralacha and Kunzum Passes, while six inches of snow have been recorded around the Atal Tunnel and up to ten inches in the Chandra Valley. This shift has led to a sharp drop in temperatures and increased slipperiness on the roads; consequently, motorists have been advised to exercise caution while traveling.
While the biting cold has certainly set in, the picturesque scenery of these valleys has, on the other hand, brought smiles to the faces of tourists. The entire valley now appears draped in a shimmering sheet of silvery-white snow.
Fresh snowfall has occurred on the high peaks of the Bhalessa Valley in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in a significant drop in regional temperatures and leaving the landscape covered in a white mantle. Meanwhile, intermittent snowfall continues in the high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh—such as near the Atal Tunnel—while the plains are experiencing rainfall.
