Just before Diwali, the IRCTC website and mobile app went down due to technical issues today. Millions of passengers faced problems booking tickets, especially those seeking Tatkal tickets.

Website and app down since morning

Complaints about the website and app not working began around 9:00 am. According to Down Detector, a website that monitors outages, by 11:00 am, nearly 6,000 users had reported the issue.

  • 49 percent of users reported the website being down.
  • 37 percent experienced problems booking through the mobile app.
  • 14 percent experienced problems purchasing tickets at the station.

Problems only occurred during Tatkal ticket bookings.

  • Millions of people book tickets on IRCTC every day. There are specific times for Tatkal ticket bookings:
  • Bookings for AC class begin at 10:00 am.
  • Bookings for sleeper class begin at 11:00 am.

But today, the server crashed before 10 am, making it difficult to book tickets for Dhanteras and Diwali.
