ईरान के इस पवित्र शहर में खामेनेई को सुपुर्द-ए-खाक करने की तैयारी, जंग के साए में दी जाएगी अंतिम विदाई
Amid the ongoing conflict between the US and Israel, preparations are underway for the burial of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Mashhad, one of the country’s holiest cities. Citing Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, AFP reported that Khamenei will be laid to rest in this northeastern Iranian city, which is also his birthplace. Significantly, his father was buried in Mashhad, within the sacred shrine of Imam Reza.
Died at the age of 86
Khamenei, who led Iran for 36 years, was martyred at the age of 86 during the recent US-Israeli attacks. His death was first announced by US President Donald Trump on his Truth social platform, which was later officially confirmed by the Iranian regime. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated on its Telegram channel that a grand farewell ceremony will be held in Tehran, followed by the funeral.
The funeral will begin tonight.
According to the Tehran Times, Khamenei’s body will be laid to rest starting at 10 p.m. Iranian time. A three-day ceremony will be held at the Imam Khomeini Mosque, while the exact burial schedule is still being finalized and will be announced soon. This ceremony will be historic in Iran’s history, as Khamenei served as the second-longest-serving Supreme Leader since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He had final say on important matters such as defense, the economy, and education.
A Major Shrine in Shia Islam
Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city, is highly sacred to Shia Muslims, home to the shrine of Imam Reza. Millions of pilgrims visit the shrine every year. Khamenei maintained a strong hold on Iran’s political system for more than three decades and expanded the country’s influence in the Middle East. His legacy will long resonate in the geopolitics of the region.
