Internet Cut For 48 Hours In UP’s Bareilly Amid “I Love Muhammad” Posters Row

Tight security arrangements have been made in four districts of the Bareilly division of Uttar Pradesh in view of the Dussehra festival and tomorrow’s Friday. Restrictions on mobile internet, broadband, and SMS services in Bareilly district have been extended for another 48 hours. A heavy police presence has been deployed in the district.

Following the September 26th riots in Bareilly district, the police administration is on high alert. Vigilance has been further increased in view of Dussehra and the Friday prayers. Given the situation in the city, police from other districts have been detained until October 4th. Internet service has been suspended in the district again on government orders. The order states that internet service will remain suspended from 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon until 3 p.m. Saturday, October 4th.

Public panic spreads

When news of the internet shutdown went viral on social media on Thursday afternoon, people began sending copies of the order to each other. The second two-day shutdown caused panic among residents, who continued to inquire with their acquaintances. BSNL GM Pankaj Porwal stated that internet service has been suspended for two days on government orders. SMSes will also be blocked during this period. It should be noted that internet service was suspended in the district for two days following the previous Friday riots.

Police Alert for Dussehra and Friday

The situation in the city is completely normal. The markets are bustling with activity as usual. Security has been increased in view of Dussehra and the Friday prayers that follow. Police officers are constantly on patrol. Under the leadership of SP South Anshika Verma, the police force conducted a flag march in sensitive areas of the city on Thursday.

SP South stated that six teams of women’s QRTs have been deployed, along with the Veerangna unit of the women’s SOG. Each team consists of 30-35 personnel. The QRTs are fully capable of handling all kinds of challenges. Crowd movements are being monitored from the control room. Wherever a crowd is seen gathering, an alert will be issued and the appropriate force will be deployed.
