A major accident occurred in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday evening. A fire broke out in a chemical warehouse in the Rau police station area. Two women tragically died and one man was injured in the incident.

Thinner sparked the fire, spreading rapidly.

The large quantity of thinner stored in the warehouse fueled the fire. Thinner is a highly flammable solvent commonly used in the paint and chemical industries.

The fire department brought the fire under control within an hour and a half.

Identification of the Dead and Injured

The women were identified as Ramkali (50) and Jyoti Neem (34). Another man, Suraj Bhagnani (34), suffered burns to both hands and was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Fire started from diyas during puja

Krishna Lalchandani, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Indore, said that the victims were performing Ekadashi puja. They had lit stone clay diyas, which were near the thinner stored nearby. This ignited the fire. The fire engulfed the material, leading to a major accident and the death of two people.

Investigation into Rented Space Underway

He further said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the space was rented by a man named Bhaiyalal Mukati. Although the space is commonly referred to as a factory, police have yet to confirm whether it was operating as a manufacturing unit or merely a storage warehouse.

Licenses and Safety Standards Examined

Officials are now investigating whether the facility had licenses to store such hazardous materials and whether any negligence played a role in the incident.

Local residents are gripped by fear.

Local residents heard loud noises and saw thick smoke rising from the area, creating panic. Some nearby units were evacuated as a precaution. No other injuries have been reported so far. Authorities are promising to conduct a thorough investigation, fix responsibility, and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
