Following the chaos caused by the cancellation of Indigo Airlines services across the country, the central government, having taken notice of the situation, has decided to conduct a high-level inquiry into the matter. This inquiry will investigate what went wrong at Indigo, determine accountability for appropriate action wherever necessary, and suggest measures to prevent any such disruptions in the future so that passengers do not face such difficulties again.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu issued a statement regarding the disruption of Indigo services. He said that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken immediate and proactive steps to address the ongoing disruptions in flights, particularly those of Indigo Airlines. He stated that the DGCA’s Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) orders have been suspended with immediate effect. This decision, without compromising air safety, has been taken entirely in the interest of passengers, especially senior citizens, students, patients, and others who depend on air travel at crucial times.

The Civil Aviation Minister further stated that instructions have been given to restore normal flight services as soon as possible and to take measures to minimize inconvenience to passengers. Based on the immediate implementation of these instructions, we expect flight schedules to stabilize and return to normal by tomorrow. We anticipate a full restoration of services within the next three days.

The Minister added that during this period, airlines have been instructed to provide regular and accurate updates to passengers through advanced online information systems to assist them, allowing passengers to monitor the real-time status of their flights from their homes. He said that in case of any flight cancellation, airlines will automatically issue a full refund to passengers without any request.

The Minister also stated that passengers stranded due to long delays will be provided with hotel accommodation directly by the airlines. Special priority is being given to senior citizens and persons with disabilities. They will be provided with lounge facilities and all possible assistance to ensure a comfortable journey. In addition, all passengers affected by delayed flights will be provided with refreshments and essential services.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has established a control room, which is monitoring the situation on a real-time basis to ensure swift corrective action, effective coordination, and immediate resolution of any problems that may arise. The Minister stated that the government is fully aware of the difficulties being faced by air passengers and is in constant consultation with airlines and all relevant stakeholders. Every necessary measure is being taken to stabilize airline operations and minimize public inconvenience as quickly as possible, including regulatory relaxations permitted by the DGCA. Passenger care, safety, and convenience remain the top priority of the Government of India.
