NIA to Investigate Deaths of Children

Following the incident, Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh stated that the Manipur government has decided to hand over the investigation into the bomb attack—which claimed the lives of two children—to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Confirming the deaths, Manipur’s Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam reported that a large number of youths and women staged a protest against a bomb attack carried out by suspected militants in the Moirang Tronglaobi area, which had resulted in the deaths of two children. He further noted that the protesters stormed the CRPF camp located near Gelmol—situated just a few hundred meters from the site of the bomb attack—where they set vehicles ablaze and vandalized property.

The Minister stated, “I had urged the protesters not to enter the CRPF camp and to allow the security forces to focus on their operation to apprehend those involved in the bomb attack. However, the protesters paid no heed to my appeal.” The Home Minister added, “They stormed the CRPF camp, set vehicles on fire, and vandalized parts of the camp, compelling the security personnel to open fire. They fired either in self-defense or out of anger. Unfortunately, two people lost their lives in the firing, while five others sustained gunshot wounds.” Violence Erupts Following Death of Two Children in Bomb Attack

Earlier, late Monday night, two children were killed and their mother injured in a bomb attack carried out in the Bishnupur district. The incident sparked outrage among local residents. A senior official stated that the incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Monday night, when suspected militants hurled a bomb at a house in Moirang Tronglaobi. The explosion claimed the lives of a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl. A police official confirmed that both children and their mother were asleep inside the house when the bomb exploded.

In protest against the incident, local residents staged demonstrations this morning and set fire to two oil tankers and a truck near a petrol pump in the area. They burned tires in front of the Moirang Police Station and also dismantled a temporary police outpost. Subsequently, a mob comprising hundreds of people spiraled out of control and stormed a nearby CRPF camp. During the ensuing chaos, the mob engaged in extensive vandalism at the camp. To bring the unruly crowd under control, CRPF personnel opened fire, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals.
