News of a major tragedy has emerged from the Katihar district of Bihar. Here, 10 people lost their lives in a collision involving a bus, a truck, and a pickup van. The accident was so severe that the pickup van was completely mangled, while the front section of the bus sustained heavy damage.
Following the accident, the bodies of victims lay scattered across the road. Initially, reports indicated that 7 people had died in the incident; however, shortly thereafter, the death toll rose to 10. A local police official stated that 30 injured individuals have been admitted to a hospital for treatment. The condition of some of these patients is critical; consequently, the death toll could rise further.
Accident Occurs on NH-31 in Korha, Katihar
The accident took place at Bangarha Chowk, situated on National Highway (NH) 31, within the Korha block of Katihar. Officially, not much detailed information regarding the accident has been released yet. However, Tarkishore Prasad—Bihar’s former Deputy Chief Minister and a prominent leader from Katihar—expressed his grief over the incident in a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
Former Deputy CM Tarkishore Expresses Condolences
Tarkishore Prasad wrote on ‘X’: “Reports are coming in regarding the death of several people in a road accident on NH-31 at Bangarha Chowk, located in the Korha block of Katihar. I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I am in contact with the local administration. I urge everyone to strictly adhere to traffic rules; unnecessary haste can prove to be fatal.”
Injured Admitted to Nearby Hospital
Providing details about the incident, local police stated that at least 10 people were killed and 25 others injured in a collision involving a bus, a truck, and a pickup van in Katihar on Saturday evening. Katihar Superintendent of Police (SP) Shikhar Chaudhary informed journalists that the accident occurred on NH-31 within the Korha block of Katihar. The injured have been transported to a nearby government hospital. The SP added that the death toll could potentially rise.
