In Indore, NOTA gets record votes as candidate-less Congress’s appeal works

NOTA came second in Indore seat and got more than 2 lakh votes. A total of 218674 votes were cast for NOTA.

In Indore, one of the most prominent seats in Madhya Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party faced competition not from any candidate but from NOTA. Here BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani registered the biggest victory, he won by 1008077 votes, Lalwani got a total of 1226751 votes. NOTA is at second place in Indore seat which has got more than 2 lakh votes. A total of 218674 votes were cast in NOTA.

Let us tell you, Indore Lok Sabha seat has been in discussions because Congress candidate Akshay Kanti Bam withdrew his nomination. Apart from this, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Sanjay Solanki got 51659 votes and Pawan Kumar of All India Family Party got about 15210 votes. BJP had once again made Shankar Lalwani a candidate on Indore Lok Sabha seat. Congress fielded Akshay Kanti Bam against him, but he withdrew his nomination and joined BJP.

After the Congress candidate withdrew his nomination, NOTA was promoted by Congress and a campaign was also run for it. There are 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 28 and Congress won one place. In this election, BJP is leading on all seats.

Where was NOTA used first?

The Election Commission of India started providing the NOTA option in EVMs and ballot papers from 11 October 2013. The NOTA option is in the last panel of ballot papers and EVMs. NOTA was used for the first time in 2013 in the assembly elections of Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
