A month after the Nipah terror subsided in Kozhikode district of Kerala, concern has increased further. State Health Minister Veena George said on Wednesday that ICMR tests conducted on bats from neighboring Wayanad district have turned out positive.

Speaking to the media, George said that the virus has been confirmed in samples of bats collected from Sultan Bathery and Manthavady areas of Wayanad district.

George said, “The need of the hour is that alert health professionals should leave no stone unturned in the routine work of examining patients. A cautious approach should be adopted.”

Incidentally, during the second week of September, medical officials in Kozhikode suspected the spread of the virus after the death of two patients with suspected Nipah symptoms.

Kozhikode had seen two deaths and six positive cases from Nipah. More than 1000 samples have been sent for testing.
