IAF organ airlift from Bengaluru to Delhi gives new life to 5 patients

According to the Indian Air Force, one kidney and one cornea were sent to the military hospital in Delhi. The second kidney, cornea, skin transplant procedure was done at CHAFB in collaboration with the medical team of Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru.

Five people were given a new lease of life by sending the organs of a patient in Bengaluru to different parts of the country who was declared ‘brain dead’ by doctors on Friday.

As part of this operation, a kidney and a cornea were airlifted from Bengaluru to Delhi by an Indian Air Force aircraft.

The Indian Air Force shared details of the coordinated operation and pictures of the organs being airlifted in a post on ‘X’. The post said, “The Air Force helped in making life-saving transplants possible and transporting organs to various locations through ‘Command Hospital Air Force Bengaluru’ (CHAFB).”

It said that the patient who was declared ‘brain dead’ on Friday gave “new life to five people”.

According to the Indian Air Force, one kidney and one cornea were sent to a military hospital in Delhi. The transplant procedure of the second kidney, cornea, skin was done at CHAFB in collaboration with the medical team of Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.

It said the liver transplant was successfully carried out at Gleneagles BGS Hospital.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with Jeevanasarthakthe Karnataka. It reflects the exceptional commitment and expertise of the armed forces medical community in the medical field, the IAF said in the post.
