Regarding the incident, Superintendent of Police (Western Railway) Sarjo Kumari said that passengers rushed to board the Tapti Ganga Express train from Surat Railway Station in the morning, due to which there was an atmosphere of chaos and some people became unconscious.

Death of Virendra Singh, resident of Chhapra

The deceased who was a victim of the stampede has been identified as Virendra Singh, who was a resident of Chhapra, Bihar and was working in Surat. It is being told that along with Virendra, three other people including a woman also became unconscious after getting trapped in the crowd. On the spot, the Railway Police gave everyone CPR and took them to a nearby private hospital in 108 ambulance, where the doctor declared them dead.
