A large number of people are present on the banks of the river along with the families of the students who drowned in the river. People are praying for the students to come out safely. Police officials said that due to continuous rain, the water level of the Mayurakshi river has increased considerably.

Four students who went to take bath in Mayurakshi river under Jama police station area of Dumka district of Jharkhand drowned. The body of one of them has been recovered, while the search for three others is on. Police have recovered four mobile phones and clothes of the students from the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Krishna Singh (17), a resident of Bakshi Bandh area of the city, who was a class 12 student in the local district school. The missing students have been identified as Aryan Kumar, Krish and Aryan. According to the police, the four students left home on Thursday evening but did not return till late night.
The family started searching but no clue was found. Meanwhile, some people of Haripur village saw clothes and mobiles on the river bank and informed the police fearing something untoward. The family and police who reached the spot started the search with the help of divers. The body of Krishna Singh was recovered on Friday morning, while no trace of the three students has been found so far.

Police officials said that due to continuous rain, the water level of the Mayurakshi river has increased a lot and the search operation is facing difficulties due to the water being up to 20 feet. SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar said that more teams of divers have been called and soon they will be sent into the river to search for the students.
The place where this incident happened is called ‘Mini Goa’ by the people. It is said that in the year 2016 also six students who had gone to bathe at this place had drowned. More than 40 people have died due to drowning in rivers, ponds, dams and reservoirs during the monsoon this year in Jharkhand. Most of these were students and youth.
