Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya died on Thursday at his residence in Kolkata He passed away. He was 80 years old. State unit secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Mohammad Salim gave this information.

Bhattacharya was suffering from age-related diseases. He was ill for a long time. He had difficulty in breathing, due to which He was also admitted to hospital in July.

He is survived by wife Mira and daughter Suchetana. Marxist Communist Party leader Bhattacharya was the chief minister of the state from 2000 to 2011. Bhattacharya was away from public life for the last few years due to his health. He resigned from the Politburo and Central Committee of the CPI (M) in 2015. In 2018, he left the membership of the state secretariat.
