Flood threat in many parts of Bihar, major rivers above red mark

Flood-like situation has arisen in dozens of villages of Aurai, Katra and Gaighat block areas of Muzaffarpur due to increase in the water level of Bagmati river. Normal life has been thrown out of gear in many villages due to water entering inside the houses.

Flood has knocked in many districts of Bihar. The water level of major rivers of the state has increased, due to which flood water is entering the low-lying areas.

Rivers like Ganga, Bagmati, Kosi, Kamla Balan are in spate in the state. The water level of river Ganga in Patna has also reached near the danger mark. According to the flood control room, the water level at the Balmikinagar barrage on the Gandak river was 1.34 lakh cusecs at 8 am on Saturday, which increased to 1.36 lakh cusecs at 10 am.

However, the water level of Kosi river remained stable. The water level of Kosi in Veerpur barrage built on Kosi river was 1.36 lakh cusecs at 6 am, which has remained stable even at 10 am.

Here, the state’s major rivers Ganga, Bagmati, Kamla, Gandak river have crossed the danger mark at many places. The Gandak is flowing above the danger mark at Dumariya Ghat while the Kosi is above the red mark at Baltara and Kursela. Bagmati is above the danger mark in Kataunjha and Beniabad, while Ganga is above the danger mark in Hathidah and Kahalgaon, Kamla Balan in Jaynagar and Jhanjharpur and Budhi Gandak in Khagaria.

The road connectivity of Rajwahi, Semrahi, Jagiri Tola, Mehandiya, Khap Maqsoodpur villages of Gopalganj’s Sadar block has already been cut off. Schools affected by the flood have been ordered to be shifted to other places.

Here, after the spate in the Ganga, the danger of flood has started looming in the Diara areas. Flood water has entered the low-lying areas. The administration is on alert regarding the possibility of flood. The administration is keeping an eye on the whole situation. Due to the fear of flood, people of low-lying areas are leaving their homes and going to other places.
