A Mumbai court has sentenced filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma to three months’ imprisonment in a cheque bounce case and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.

Mumbai. Ram Gopal Varma, who is celebrating the re-release of his film Satya, is now in trouble as he has been sentenced to three months in jail after a non-bailable warrant was issued in a cheque bounce case.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who is in the news for his controversial statements, was booked in 2018 for a film titled ‘Shri’. The director is facing some financial crisis as he has not made any films in recent times and his previous films have also not done well in the last few years. The filmmaker was released in 2022 after paying a cash security amount of Rs 5000.
According to the information, the Mumbai Magistrate Court has now sentenced him to three months imprisonment in this cheque bounce case. The director was summoned for hearing in the court on Tuesday, January 21. But he did not appear in court. Thus, the court charged him under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
The court has also directed to pay Rs 3.72 lakh as compensation to the complainant. The act deals with dishonour of cheque due to insufficient funds or exceeding the agreed payment amount. Apart from this, a non-bailable warrant has been issued for his arrest.
