Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) leader Sanjay Raut has expressed apprehension that a Godhra-like incident may take place at the time of the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram temple ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He said that BJP can go to any extent to win the Lok Sabha elections.

Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut says that there is a fear in the minds of the people that a Godhra-like incident might happen on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ram temple before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Sanjay Raut said in Mumbai on Tuesday that, “There is a fear in the minds of common people and many political leaders that the political party (BJP) which can pretend to do surgical strike to win elections… can do anything. The Pulwama terror attack of 2019 did not actually happen, but was staged, as claimed by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik. Similar things are being said about Godhra (in 2002) too, that it was a conspiracy.”
Significantly, after the train burning incident in Godhra, riots broke out in Gujarat, in which hundreds of people lost their lives. Similarly, as a retaliation to the terrorist attack in Pulwama, India carried out air strikes targeting terrorist bases in Balakot, Pakistan.
Sanjay Raut has said that, “We are apprehensive that even during the inauguration of the Ram temple, people will go to Ayodhya by train and during this time stone pelting started on trains at one station and attacks started, then BJP would have to spread riots. There will be an opportunity to provoke more, and all this can be pre-decided and this is the fear.
He said that now Ram Mandir has also been built, BJP has no agenda left for the upcoming 2024 elections, so it can go to any extent to save its chair and get votes. Before the upcoming elections, we may see incidents like communal rift and riots.
Sanjay Raut further said that “In 2014, BJP fooled people in the name of Ram Mandir and in 2019, they staged surgical strike and fanned communalism to get votes. Now, to win the elections in 2024, they are again stoking communal disharmony. There are many serious issues like inflation and unemployment in the country, but without discussing it, they want to face the elections by inciting communal riots.” We are aware about this and if there is a need to make people aware.
