At Bajaj Sugar Mill located in Budhana tehsil of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, Rs 220 crore sugarcane payment is pending to the farmers, due to which the farmers have been protesting at the gate of the mill for the last 90 days demanding payment.

Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union, has expressed his displeasure over non-payment of sugarcane dues to farmers. He warned that if the sugarcane dues of the farmers are not paid within 20 days, then the farmers will not give their sugarcane to the mill and will start dumping it at the District Magistrate’s office and the mill will be locked and the gate of the factory will be welded.
He said that this protest will continue for several days. Mills have been given 20 days time, if payment is not made then farmers will not give sugarcane to Bajaj Sugar Factory. Farmers will express their displeasure by taking out a tractor march in the district.
He said that the farmer will go to the District Magistrate’s office of Muzaffarnagar with the sugarcane. During the protest on Saturday, officials of the mill and district administration held talks with the farmers at the Panchayat site, in which the farmers gave 20 days time to the mill to pay the payment.
Bhakiyu spokesperson said that the payment has been stopped for one year. If payment is not made on time, farmers will lock out the sugar factory. Till now, sugarcane payment of Rs 220 crore is outstanding on Bajaj Sugar Mill. Sugar mill officials have talked about giving only Rs 20 crore. Due to this there is anger among the farmers. The farmers have refused to supply sugarcane to the sugar factory here.
Tikait said that the government has crossed the limits of insensitivity. Sugar mills are not paying the farmers. The state government is also sitting silently. Farmers of the area are troubled due to non-payment of outstanding sugarcane price. He does not have money to solve his children’s marriage, education and other problems. More than 220 crore dues are going on in Budhana’s sugar mill. Farmers have also been protesting for several months, but till now the mill administration has fallen on deaf ears.
