In a shock to new X users, Elon Musk has announced that they can now be charged for posting content on his platform.
In response to an X user, the CEOs of Tesla and SpaceX said that unfortunately, “a small fee for new users to post a Matter is the only way to stop the constant onslaught of bots.”
“Existing AI (and troll farms) can easily pass ‘are you a bot’,” Musk posted. Musk said, “By paying a small fee, new users can post for free after three months.”
It is worth noting that in October last year, X started charging new unverified users in New Zealand and the Philippines one dollar per year.
Earlier this month, the Musk-led platform had announced a massive purge of spam accounts. Within a few months, X was inundated with spam and porn bots. Musk had announced that a system purge of bots and trolls was underway.
