Uttarakhand: ED raids 17 locations of Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat, action taken on land scam charges
उत्तराखंड: कांग्रेस नेता हरक सिंह रावत के 17 ठिकानों पर ED की छापेमारी
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided the premises of former Uttarakhand minister and Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat. Apart from Harak Singh, more than 10 locations of many other people have been raided in Uttarakhand.
ED has taken this action in the land scam. In August last year, the Vigilance Department had also taken action against Harak Singh. According to sources, ED has raided a total of 17 locations of the Congress leader, out of which 2 are in Delhi.
According to the information, the ED investigation is related to alleged illegal activities in the Corbett Tiger Reserve of the state. In 2022, Harak Singh Rawat was dismissed from the Uttarakhand cabinet and primary membership of BJP for six years due to anti-party activities. He later joined the Congress ahead of the state assembly elections, in which the BJP won the Himalayan state for the second consecutive time. Harak Singh Rawat was among the ten MLAs who rebelled against former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat in 2016 and joined BJP.
Became minister for the first time in 1991
Harak Singh Rawat became a minister in Uttar Pradesh in 1991. He is the youngest leader to become a minister. He was the Congress candidate from Garhwal in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Harak Singh Rawat has been a member of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. Before the action in Uttarakhand, ED had taken action against Aam Aadmi Party leaders in Delhi on Tuesday. The investigating agency had searched the premises of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal secretary, Rajya Sabha MP and party treasurer ND Gupta and others in the money laundering case.
AAP condemned the raid and accused the Center and ED of intimidation, while BJP leveled allegations of corruption against the Kejriwal government. CM Arvind Kejriwal alleged in a post on social media platform X that this is being done to crush the Aam Aadmi Party and harass its members. The ED raid was conducted over allegations that AAP and some officials took bribes worth around Rs 21 crore through alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) contract.
Kejriwal said, today 23 ED officers raided my PA’s house for 16 hours. After a thorough investigation they found nothing, not even a single penny, no jewelery or any property of any kind, no papers
