According to a report by news agency Reuters, four eyewitnesses, activists and a diplomat spoke about these drone attacks, which targeted families waiting to cross the border to Bangladesh. Many eyewitnesses said that after the attack people were running away. They were wandering among the piles of dead bodies to identify their dead and injured relatives.
According to the report, this attack is the biggest ever on civilians in Rakhine state during the conflict between military junta soldiers and rebels in recent weeks. This is a deadly attack. Reuters quoted three eyewitnesses as saying that the Arakan Army was behind this, although the group has denied these allegations. Myanmar’s army and militia have accused each other of the attack.
Scattered all around Bodies seen
Videos posted on social media show piles of bodies lying in a muddy field. Their suitcases and backpacks were scattered around them. Three people said more than 200 people had died, while one eyewitness said he saw at least 70 bodies.

‘When I woke up, I saw my wife and daughter shot’
According to the report, an eyewitness named Mohammad Ilyas, 35, said that his pregnant wife and 2 children were killed in the attack. The year-old daughter was injured and later died. Ilyas told Reuters from a refugee camp in Bangladesh that he was standing with them on the beach when the drones started attacking the crowd.
Ilyas said, ‘ I heard the crackling sound of gunfire several times.’ He said he lay down on the ground to protect himself and when he got up he saw his wife and daughter seriously injured and several other relatives lying dead.
