Diwali fireworks poison the air, Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun is in the most distress.

Dehradun: The air quality in the plains of Uttarakhand was significantly affected on Diwali. The level of air pollution in big cities was more worrying. Dehradun and Kashipur recorded the highest air quality index (AQI).
The climate in Doon remained more polluted than last year. At the same time, the air quality in Rishikesh remained satisfactory even on Diwali.
This time, for the first time, pollution in Tehri was also investigated by Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board. The situation here was found satisfactory. According to Sushant Patnaik, Member Secretary, Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board, air pollution in Dehradun was investigated in Ghantaghar and Nehru Colony. The average AQI at both places was 272.
Talking about last Diwali, the average was 247. Whereas, in the year 2021, it unexpectedly reached 327 on Diwali. AQI was measured for the first time in Tehri and Nainital. The situation in both the cities remained near normal.

Air pollution investigation being done from November 5
The Pollution Control Board is investigating air pollution from November 5 to November 19 in view of Diwali. The pollution level in Dehradun increased almost two and a half times from November 5 to Diwali. A week ago it was 113 and on Diwali it was recorded at 272. (in AQI)
