Delhi Records Highest Number Of Road Accidents In 2022: Report

Many important things have come to light from the report released by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways regarding road accidents occurring in the country. According to the report, the country’s capital Delhi ranks first in terms of the number of deaths and injuries in road accidents.

Among the big cities of the country with a population of more than 10 lakh, Delhi recorded the highest number of 5,652 road accidents in the year 2022. Whereas Indore and Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh stood second and third. Last year, more than 17 thousand people lost their lives due to road accidents in 50 cities. According to the report, 5,652 road accidents occurred in Delhi. After this, 4,680 road accidents were recorded in Indore, 4,046 in Jabalpur, 3,822 in Bengaluru, 3,452 in Chennai, 3,313 in Bhopal), 2,991 in Malappuram, 2,687 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, 2,516 in Hyderabad and 2,432 in Kochi.

According to the report, out of the total road accidents in 50 cities with a population of 10 lakh, 46.37 percent of the accidents occurred in these 10 cities. A total of 76,752 road accidents were recorded in these 50 cities in 2022, in which 17,089 people lost their lives and 69,052 were injured. These cities are located in 17 states and two union territories. 16.6 percent of total accidents and 10.1 percent of total accident-related deaths in the country were recorded in these cities.

According to the report, the number of road accidents and deaths increased in all cities with a population of more than 10 lakh except Chennai, Dhanbad, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Patna and Visakhapatnam in 2022 compared to 2021. In the year 2022, about 68 percent of deaths due to road accidents occurred in rural areas. Whereas in urban areas this figure was 32 percent.
