Death toll in Jaisalmer bus accident reaches 22, 6 critical

The death toll from the bus fire in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, has risen to 22. A woman, Bhaga Devi, also died during treatment. Six patients are currently on ventilators and their condition is also reported to be critical.

Baga Devi, a woman who suffered 90% severe burns in the Jaisalmer bus accident, has succumbed to her injuries, bringing the death toll to 22. Four people are still on ventilators. On Wednesday, the FSL collected blood samples from 19 unidentified victims and relatives for identification. The FSL team worked throughout the night and identified 18 bodies by 7 a.m. on October 16th. One body could not be identified due to a lack of blood samples from relatives. Following DNA testing and post-mortem, the process of handing over the bodies to the families has begun.

At the Jodhpur Mahatma Gandhi Hospital mortuary, relatives and villagers from Shergarh have refused to accept the bodies. The relatives and villagers of the five deceased in the fire have staged a sit-in protest demanding adequate compensation.

Following the DNA testing report, nine bodies have been stored at AIIMS Hospital and nine at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital (MGH), Jodhpur. These bodies have been identified.
